The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Guelph
invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant
Professor level in the areas of data science or analytics,
spatial-temporal statistics, statistical/machine learning, multivariate
statistics, or big data. The successful candidate will actively
participate in the newly established University of Guelph Master of Data
Science (MDS) program. The anticipated start date of the position is
August 1, 2022.

The successful applicant should or will have a Ph.D. in mathematics,
statistics, or a closely related area. They should have an established
record of, or potential to develop, an independent program of research
with global impact funded by Canadian and international agencies (e.g.,
NSERC, CIHR, NIH, SHHRC) leading to international recognition. This
program will be in the area of mathematical and statistical approaches
to data science and/or theoretical, methodological, or ethical
foundations of data science. Applicants should have experience in the
applications of data science and willingness to collaborate with
researchers in other disciplines.

Applicants must have the inspiration and ability to teach and supervise
undergraduate and graduate students. They will be expected to develop
and offer graduate courses related to data science, to broadly
contribute to the teaching mandate of the department at the
undergraduate level including courses in both the Mathematical Sciences
major and service courses, and to supervise students in graduate and
undergraduate research.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics is housed in the College of
Engineering and Physical Sciences at the University of Guelph. We are an
active and dynamic group of researchers and educators working in a wide

both undergraduate and graduate degree programs to help prepare students
for careers in Mathematical Science. Our department is hosting the newly
launched professional Master of Data Science program which, beyond
standard data science skills, is dedicated to handling data in space and
time, understanding data ethics throughout the data life cycle and
developing strong communication skills for knowledge transfer/dissemination.
