Dear colleagues,

The CMS is pleased to inform you that after much deliberation, a 
decision has been made regarding the format of the 2022 CMS Summer Meeting.

Without further ado, I hereby announce that the 2022 CMS Summer Meeting 
will be held in-personat Memorial University in St. John’s, Newfoundland 
from June 3-6.

We did not take this decision lightly, and only finalized it after 
careful consideration of the current situation surrounding the COVID-19 
pandemic, with the overall well-being of our members at the front of our 
minds. With the current relaxation of public health measures, and 
overall movement towards the resumption of normal activities, an 
in-person meeting is now feasible. Of course, the CMS will follow 
whichever public-health measures and/or guidelines are in place in 
Newfoundland at the time of the meeting.

Registration will be opening soon, so stay tuned! As part of our Closing 
the Gap initiative, we have added two new RBC-Sponsored registration 
categories for students 15-29 who identify as Black, Indigenous, Women, 
or LGBTQ+. More information regarding this exciting initiative will be 
provided once registration has opened. We are excited to be able to make 
our meetings even more accessible to a diverse group of attendees.

We are very excited to see everyone at what will be the largest on-site 
event in Canadian Mathematics since the beginning of the COVID-19 
pandemic. We hope that this will be one of the many resumptions of 
valuable in-person opportunities for mathematicians to share ideas.

The fact that the 2022 CMS Summer Meeting will be among the first to be 
held in-person since the beginning of the pandemic is one of many 
reasons to look forward to it. Nothing sounds better to us than doing 
what we love (talking about mathematics and listening to others talk 
about it) in a beautiful setting such as St.John’s, Newfoundland. This 
meeting is a long-awaited opportunity for all of us to safely 
reintegrate ourselves into a face to face forum for the discussion and 
discovery of mathematics. It is sure to be one for the books!

N.B. We recognize that despite the resumption of normal activities, the 
uncertainty due to COVID-19 persists. If the situation surrounding the 
pandemic worsens, the CMS will re-evaluate the format of the meeting and 
take the appropriate course of action at that time.

La SMC a le plaisir de vous informer qu’après de nombreuses 
délibérations, une décision a été prise concernant le format de la 
Réunion d’été de la SMC 2022.

Sans plus tarder, je vous annonce que la Réunion d’été de la SMC 2022 
aura lieu sur placeà Memorial Universityà Saint-Jean de Terre-Neuve du 3 
au 6 juin.

Nous n’avons pas pris cette décision à la légère et nous l’avons 
seulement finalisée après avoir soigneusement considéré la situation 
entourant la COVID-19, toujours gardant à l’esprit le bien-être général 
de nos membres. Compte tenu de l’assouplissement des mesures de la santé 
publique, et le mouvement global vers la reprise des activités 
habituelles, une réunion sur place est maintenant faisable. Certes, la 
SMC suivra toutes les mesures ou directives qui seront en place en 
Terre-Neuve pendant la réunion.

L’inscription sera bientôt ouverte, donc restez à l’écoute ! Dans le 
cadre de notre initiative Combler l’écart, nous avons ajouté deux 
nouvelles catégories d’inscription soutenues par RBC pour les étudiants 
qui s’identifient comme Noirs, autochtones, femmes ou LGBTQ+. Plus de 
renseignements sur cette initiative prometteuse seront disponibles une 
fois que l’inscription est ouverte. Nous sommes ravis de pouvoir rendre 
nos réunions plus accessibles à un groupe diversifié de participants.

Le fait que la Réunion d’été 2022 de la SMC sera parmi les premières à 
avoir lieu en personne depuis le début de la pandémie est qu’une de 
plusieurs raisons d’y avoir hâte. Rien ne nous semble mieux que faire ce 
que nous aimons (parler des mathématiques et écouter aux autres) dans un 
cadre magnifique comme Saint-Jean de Terre-Neuve. Cette réunion est une 
occasion longtemps attendue pour nous réintégrer prudemment aux 
conférences sur site qui rendent possible la discussion et la découverte 
des mathématiques en personne. Ce sera certainement une réunion 
difficile à oublier !

N.B. Nous reconnaissons que malgré la reprise des activités habituelles, 
l’incertitude que présente la COVID-19 persiste. Si la situation 
concernant la pandémie se dégrade, la SMC réévaluera le format de la
