Dear members of the mathematical community,

Throughout the month of May, the CMS and the Canadian Mathematical 
community will be celebrating Asian Heritage Month. Asian Heritage Month 
has been celebrated in Canada since the 1990s and these celebrations 
became official in 2001 through a Senate motion proposed by Senator 
Vivienne Poy. This is a time for the Canadian Mathematical Society to 
highlight and honour the contributions of Asian mathematicians and 
mathematicians of Asian heritage in our community and to reflect upon 
one of our greatest strengths: diversity. The Canadian mathematical 
community continues to flourish and thrive because of the hard work of 
its members from diverse walks of life and wishes to offer in return an 
opportunity to all mathematicians and mathematics educators and 
enthusiasts to realise their full potential.

We will be highlighting the important work of Asian mathematicians 
throughout the month of May and invite members to send us the names of 
the mathematicians they would like to see celebrated on CMS website and 
social media.

Chers et chères membres de la communauté mathématique,

Au cours du mois de mai, la Société mathématique du Canada et la 
communauté mathématique célèbreront le Mois du patrimoine asiatique. 
Bien qu'il soit célébré au Canada depuis les années 1990, le Mois du 
patrimoine asiatique est devenu officiel en 2001 grâce à une proposition 
de la sénatrice Vivienne Poy. C'est aussi l’occasion pour la Société 
mathématique du Canada de souligner et d’honorer de nombreuses 
contributions des mathématicien.ne.s asiatiques et des 
mathématicien.ne.s d’origine asiatique dans notre communauté et de 
réfléchir à l’une de nos plus grandes forces : la diversité. La Société 
mathématique du Canada continue à s'épanouir grâce au travail acharné 
des membres issu.e.s des tous les horizons et elle souhaite offrir de sa 
part la possibilité à tou.te.s les mathématicien.ne.s, enseignant.e.s et 
passionné.e.s de mathématiques au Canada de réaliser leur plein potentiel.

Nous soulignerons au cours de ce mois les travaux importants de 
mathématicien.ne.s asiatiques et canadien.ne-asiatique et encourageons 
les membres de la communauté mathématique du Canada à nous envoyer les 
noms des mathématicien.ne.s qu’ils et elles aimeraient voir célébré.e.s 
sur le site Web de la SMC et sur ses pages des médiaux sociaux.
