CENTRE DE RECHERCHES MATHÉMATIQUES (CRM)

Le CRM est à la recherche d’une directrice ou d’un directeur alors que Luc Vinet, le présent directeur terminera son deuxième mandat consécutif le 1er juillet prochain. Le mandat renouvelable est de quatre ans.

Fondé en 1968, le CRM a, au Canada, la vocation d’institut international de recherche en sciences mathématiques. Il est situé sur le campus de l’Université de Montréal. Il a comme partenaires institutionnels les universités Concordia, Laval, McGill, de Sherbrooke ainsi que l’UQAM.

Le CRM regroupe 13 laboratoires qui incluent diverses sous-disciplines des sciences mathématiques; ceux-ci rassemblent plusieurs membres, dont un grand nombre d’étudiants de cycles supérieurs et de chercheurs postdoctoraux. À l’instar d’autres instituts nationaux, il organise une multitude d’événements scientifiques et, en particulier, des programmes thématiques qui accueillent chaque année un grand nombre de visiteurs. Le CRM poursuit des activités de transfert et de liaison avec l’industrie et les gouvernements. Il est l’hôte d’un IRL du CNRS français. Avec le CIRANO, il mène l’initiative En avant math! qui fait la promotion de la numératie au Québec avec le soutien de son gouvernement.

La prochaine directrice ou le prochain directeur sera une personne d’une stature internationale comme chercheur(e) en sciences mathématiques. Elle fera preuve d’un grand leadership et possédera des habiletés administratives élevées. Cette personne aura la responsabilité de veiller aux succès du CRM dans toutes les composantes de son mandat qui comprend entre autres: 1. La conduite et le soutien de la recherche en sciences mathématiques;  2. La formation de jeunes chercheurs; 3. La création de partenariats avec l’industrie et les gouvernements; 4. Des activités soutenues de communication visant la promotion du CRM et des sciences mathématiques auprès de différentes communautés; 5. Le développement de son réseau de collaborations au Canada et à l’international. On s’attend à ce que la personne à la tête du CRM poursuive la tradition d’amorcer et de réaliser différentes initiatives d’envergure qui structureront la recherche au Canada.

La directrice ou le directeur sera la personne responsable de l’administration du CRM. Elle s’emploiera à assurer et faire croitre le financement de l’institut. Elle entretiendra d’excellentes relations avec les ministères et agences des gouvernements fédéral et provinciaux et présentera des demandes de subvention à plusieurs niveaux. La personne désignée sera de plus codirectrice ou codirecteur de l’IRL-CRM et responsable du projet En avant math!

Le comité de sélection est présidé par Bernard Gendron (Université de Montréal) et composé de Sylvie Benzoni-Gavage (Université de Lyon 1), Morgan Craig (Université de Montréal), Henri Darmon (Université McGill), Christophe Hohlweg (UQAM), Louis-Paul Rivest (Université Laval) et Christiane Rousseau (Université de Montréal).

Les candidats retenus seront invités à présenter leur énoncé de programme aux membres réguliers du CRM, lors de l’Assemblée générale prévue le 1er avril. Une consultation électronique suivra.

La nomination de la nouvelle direction du CRM se fera le 13 avril 2021.

CENTRE DE RECHERCHES MATHÉMATIQUES (CRM)

The CRM is looking for a Director as Luc Vinet, the current Director will end his second consecutive term on July 1st. The renewable term is for four years.

Founded in 1968, the CRM has the vocation of an international research institute in mathematical sciences in Canada. It is located on the campus of the Université de Montréal. Its institutional partners are the universities of Concordia, Laval, McGill, Sherbrooke and UQAM.

The CRM has 13 laboratories which include various sub-disciplines of mathematical sciences; these bring together several members, including a large number of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. Like other national institutes, it organizes a multitude of scientific events and, in particular, thematic programs that welcome a large number of visitors each year. The CRM pursues outreach and liaison activities with industry and governments. It hosts an IRL of the French CNRS. With CIRANO, it leads the En avant math! initiative, which promotes numeracy in Québec with the support of its government.

The next Director will be someone of international stature as a researcher in the mathematical sciences. He or she will demonstrate great leadership and possess strong administrative skills. This person will be responsible for ensuring the success of the CRM in all aspects of its mandate which includes, among others: 1. Conducting and supporting research in the mathematical sciences; 2. Training of young researchers; 3. Building partnerships with industry and governments; 4. Sustained communication activities to promote the CRM and the mathematical sciences to different communities; 5. Development of its network of collaborations in Canada and internationally. The person at the head of the CRM is expected to continue the tradition of initiating and carrying out various major initiatives that will structure research in Canada.

The Director will be responsible for the administration of the CRM. The person will work to secure and grow the institute's funding. She or he will maintain excellent relationships with federal and provincial government departments and agencies and will apply for grants at multiple levels. The person appointed will also be co-director of the IRL-CRM and responsible for the En avant math! project.

The selection committee is chaired by Bernard Gendron (Université de Montréal) and composed of Sylvie Benzoni-Gavage (Université de Lyon 1), Morgan Craig (Université de Montréal), Henri Darmon (McGill University), Christophe Hohlweg (UQAM), Louis-Paul Rivest (Université Laval) and Christiane Rousseau (Université de Montréal).

Successful candidates will be invited to present their program statement to the regular members of the CRM at the General Assembly scheduled for April 1. An electronic consultation will follow.

The appointment of the new CRM Director will take place on April 13, 2021.
