*MILA : un nouveau laboratoire au CRM*

Le Centre de recherches mathématiques est fier d’annoncer que le MILA 
(Institut des algorithmes d’apprentissage de Montréal) devient un 
laboratoire du CRM. Le MILA est dirigé par M. Yoshua Bengio, un chef de 
file mondial dans le domaine des algorithmes d’apprentissage. M. Bengio 
est professeur au Département d’informatique et de recherche 
opérationnelle de l’Université de Montréal et titulaire de deux chaires 
de recherche. M. Bengio était depuis longtemps membre du Laboratoire de 
statistique du CRM. L’intégration du MILA au CRM reflète le désir de 
celui-ci de rassembler les forces vives du Québec en sciences 
mathématiques : en effet l’intelligence artificielle en général, et les 
algorithmes d’apprentissage en particulier, sont des domaines porteurs 
et en pleine expansion, comme en témoigne l’école d’été 
(http://www.crm.umontreal.ca/Deeplearning15/) organisée par le MILA et 
le CRM cet été et qui accueillera presque deux cents participants. 
L’incorporation du MILA au CRM accroîtra la pertinence du CRM dans 
l’élaboration de la stratégie numérique du Québec.

*MILA: A New Laboratory at the CRM*

The Centre de recherches mathématiques is proud to announce that MILA 
(Montreal Institute for Learning Algorithms)is now a CRM laboratory. 
MILA is headed by Dr. Yoshua Bengio, a world leader in the field of 
machine learning. Dr. Bengio is a professor in the Department of 
computer science and operations research at the Université de Montréal 
and holds two research chairs. Dr. Bengio has been a member of the 
Statistics Laboratory of the CRM for many years. The integration of MILA 
within the CRM is part of the long-standing strategy of the CRM, whose 
aim is to gather Québec researchers from all the mathematical sciences 
into an institute. Indeed artificial intelligence and machine learning 
are dynamic and ever-expanding disciplines, as shown by the summer 
school (http://www.crm.umontreal.ca/2015/Deeplearning15/index_e.php) 
organized by MILA and CRM this summer and that will be attended by close 
to two hundred participants. The incorporation of MILA into the CRM will 
give the CRM a more important role within the so-called “digital 
strategy” of the Québec government.
