***PRIX CRM/FIELDS/PIMS 2013  -  CRM/FIELDS/PIMS PRIZE 2013***


Bruce Reed, professeur de l'Université McGill, est le lauréat 2013 du prix CRM/Fields/PIMS. Ce prix a pour but de souligner des réalisations exceptionnelles en sciences mathématiques. Une récompense de $10,000 sera remise au lauréat qui sera également invité à présenter une conférence publique sur ses travaux à chacun des trois instituts.

Le Professeur Reed a fait ses études à l'Université McGill en mathématiques et en informatique. Après avoir effectué des stages postdoctoraux et occupé des postes de professeur en Europe, au Canada et aux États-Unis, il s'est joint à l'Université McGill en 2001. Il détient une Chaire de recherche du Canada en théorie des graphes et a été élu membre de la Société Royale du Canada en 2009.

Le Professeur Reed a joué un rôle de premier plan dans les recherches en mathématiques discrètes et en informatique théorique. Il a été tout particulièrement remarqué pour ses travaux sur la théorie des graphes dont les plus importantes contributions concernent les structures aléatoires, les mineurs des graphes ainsi que la coloration des graphes.

En décernant le prix au Professeur Reed, le Comité de sélection a voulu souligner "ses contributions exceptionnelles à des problèmes complexes et importants sur les mineurs des graphes, la coloration des graphes, la théorie algorithmique des graphes, les graphes aléatoires, et l'analyse probabiliste des algorithmes".

Prof. Bruce Reed has been awarded the CRM/Fields/PIMS Prize for 2013.  The Prize recognizes exceptional achievement in the area of mathematical sciences and is considered one of the top honors in mathematics in Canada.  The Prize carries a monetary award of $10,000 and the recipient presents lectures at each of the three Institutes.

Prof. Reed received his degrees in Mathematics and in Computer Science at McGill University.  Following postdoctoral fellowships and faculty positions in Europe, Canada and the USA, he joined the faculty of McGill University in 2001: he currently holds the Canada Research Chair in Graph Theory and was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2009.

Prof. Reed has played a leading role in a broad range of research areas in discrete mathematics and theoretical computer science. He is best known for his work on a broad range of areas within graph theory, with many of his most important contributions being in random structures, graph minors, and graph colouring.

Prof. Reed was cited "For his profound contributions to difficult and important problems in the areas of graph minors, graph colouring, algorithmic graph theory, random graphs,  and the probabilistic analysis of algorithms".
