      Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the American University of Sharjah

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the American University of Sharjah invites applications for the following positions in Mathematics at the Assistant or Associate Professor levels beginning August 2013:

 1. One full-time position in mathematics. Applicants with strong research potential in all areas of pure, applied and financial mathematics will be considered.
 2. Two visiting positions in mathematics for the academic year 2013/14. All areas of pure, applied and financial mathematics and statistics will be considered.

Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in mathematics. Evidence of potential in research, excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels of the curriculum, and strong communication skills in English, are expected. Experience in American-style higher education is an advantage.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, an AMS cover sheet (www.ams.org <http://www.ams.org>), a curriculum vitae, a research statement, a teaching statement, and arrange for at least three letters of recommendation (one of which addresses teaching) to be sent. The Department of Mathematics & Statistics at AUS offers a master of science in Mathematics, an undergraduate major in Mathematics, a minor in Applied and Computational Mathematics, and a minor in Actuarial Mathematics. It provides courses in service to almost every academic program campus-wide. The department currently consists of twenty-eight full time faculty members who are actively engaged in original research in different areas of mathematics and statistics. The teaching load is nine credit hours per semester.

American University of Sharjah (AUS) was founded in 1997 by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Sharjah, who envisioned the university as a leading educational institution in the Gulf region. AUS is an independent, not-for-profit coeducational institution. Consciously based upon American institutions of higher education, AUS is thoroughly grounded in Arab culture and is part of a larger process of the revitalization of intellectual life in the Middle East. AUS is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and licensed in the United States by the Department of Education of the State of Delaware. The university is also licensed by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and all undergraduate and graduate programs have been awarded either full or initial accreditation. AUS offers 25 majors and 48 minors at the undergraduate level, and 13 master's degrees programs.
