The Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) is pleased to announce that Kai
Behrend from the University of British Columbia is the recipient of the
<http://www.cms.math.ca/Prizes/info/jw> 2011 Jeffery-Williams Prize in
recognition of his outstanding research contribution. Kai Behrend will
receive his award at the June 2011 Society’s Summer Meeting. 

The Jeffery-Williams Prize was inaugurated in 1968 to recognize established
mathematicians who have made outstanding contributions to mathematical
research. The first award was presented in 1968 and named, in part, for
Ralph Lent Jeffery, the fourth CMS President who by consistently encouraging
research, made an outstanding contribution to mathematics in Canada. The
award is also named, in part, for Lloyd Williams, who was instrumental in
establishing the predecessor organization of the CMS.

La Société mathématique du Canada (SMC) a le plaisir d’annoncer que Kai
Behrend de la University of British Columbia est lauréat du
<http://www.cms.math.ca/Prix/info/jw.f> prix Jeffery-Williams 2011, qui
souligne la contribution exceptionnelle de ce dernier à la recherche. Kai
Behrend recevra son prix au cours de la réunion d’été de la Société au mois
de juin 2011. 

Le prix Jeffery-Williams a été inauguré en 1968 dans le but de souligner la
contribution exceptionnelle de mathématiciens établis à la recherche en
mathématique. Le premier prix a été décerné en 1968 et nommé en partie en
hommage à Ralph Lent Jeffery, quatrième président de la SMC, qui, en
appuyant continuellement la recherche, a fait une contribution
exceptionnelle au domaine des mathématiques au Canada. Le prix porte
également le nom de Lloyd Williams, qui a contribué de manière déterminante
à la création de l’organisation prédécesseur de la SMC.
