Call for nominations and applications for the position of Director of
the Fields Institute

The term of the current Director, Barbara Keyfitz, will end June 30,
2008. The Institute is now calling for nominations and applications for
the position of Director.

The Fields Institute for Research in the Mathematical Sciences, founded
in 1992, carries on specialized year-long programs, seminars, workshops,
short courses and a broad spectrum of activities across the mathematical
sciences. Through these activities it brings together experts, young
mathematicians and graduate students to work on issues of current
research interest.  It is housed in a dedicated building on the campus
of the University of Toronto, and has office space for its staff of 15
and up to 75 visitors.  It is funded by the Natural Science and
Engineering Research Council (Canada) and the Ministry of Training,
Colleges and Universities (Ontario), and is supported by seven
sponsoring universities (Carleton, McMaster, Ottawa, Toronto, Waterloo,
Western, and York), as well as several affiliated universities and
corporate sponsors. 

The Director is the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute with
responsibility for the Institute's scientific leadership and overall
operations and budget. The term of office is three to five years,
renewable once. Candidates should be researchers with strong
international stature in the mathematical sciences, and should have
proven administrative experience. 

The members of the search committee for the new Director of the Fields
Institute are Mayer Alvo, Jim Arthur, Thomas Salisbury, Philip Siller
(Chair), Mary Thompson, Philippe Tondeur. This committee is currently
receiving nominations and applications, and will consider candidates
beginning in August 2007.
