The Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS) is delighted
to announce its 10th Graduate Industrial Modelling Camp (GIMMC) and the
11th Industrial Problem Solving Workshop (IPSW), at the University of
Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, on June 6-10 and 11-15, 2007, respectively.
The GIMMC and IPSW provide an exciting and challenging opportunity for
graduate students, postdocs and faculty to tackle real-world industry
problems using mathematical and statistical tools. Past projects have
been published in the primary literature, and have led to ongoing
research collaborations between academia and industry.
To apply to GIMMC and IPSW, please visit http://www.pims.math.ca/ipsw/.
The registration deadline is April 5, 2007, and there is no registration
fee.
For Graduate Students and Postdocs:
The GIMMC runs from June 6-10, during which time students learn
problem-solving techniques under the supervision of experts in the
field. The second week, June 11-15, is the IPSW, where student-faculty
teams apply their modeling expertise to problems provided by industry
partners. The results will be presented at the end of the workshop and
published as a report. Students are required to attend both the GIMMC
and the IPSW. Funding is available for successful student applicants.
For Faculty:
Faculty are invited to participate at the IPSW to work on problems posed
by industry partners, providing opportunities for developing
collaborative relationships with other students, faculty, and industrial
partners. Faculty will attend only the IPSW.
For Industrial Partners:
We are still accepting submissions of new projects. If your project is
accepted, please register for the IPSW part of the workshop at
http://www.pims.math.ca/ipsw/.
Please feel free to contact Dr. Thomas Hillen, organizer, with any
questions about the GIMMC or IPSW at thillen at ualberta.ca.
Sincerely,
