Dear Colleagues

The International Mathematical Union (IMU) is currently selecting its
Nominating Committee which will produce slates of candidates for the IMU
Executive for 2006-2010. The Nominating Committee has a membership of
seven, three of whom will be chosen at random from nominations made by
adhering organizations.

          The International Affairs Committee (IAC) nominated David Boyd of
UBC for a position on the Nominating Committee at its meeting in December
2004. He was not chosen during the random draw.

          The chief duty of the Nominating Committee of the IMU is to
produce a slate of candidates as follows: "The Nominating Committee will
nominate one name for the position of President, Secretary of IMU and CDE
and one name for each of the two Vice Presidents of IMU. The Nominating
Committee will nominate at least two more names than the number of members
at large of IMU and CDE, and for the ICHM representatives."

          The creation of the Nominating Committee is part of a process of
reform of the way in which the Executive is chosen: see

          I am writing to ask that members of the mathematical sciences
community nominate outstanding potential Canadian candidates to serve on the
Executive Committee of the IMU.

          The IAC will then be able to provide appropriate documentation to
the nominating committee as the opportunity arises. Nominations should
consist of:

          The names of three nominators;

          The agreement of the individual to serve in the position;

          A one page description of the potential candidate's credentials.

All nominations should be received by February 15th, 2005. We respectfully
request that nominations come in the form of PDF files provided
electronically to

I apologize for the short notice
