Recently you received an invitation to participate in the SAS inSchool's Educational Forum to be held in Philadelphia, Friday, April 23, from 8:00 to 10:00 AM.  This is a reminder that applications are due by Monday March 8th.  A copy of the application is attached.

If you are selected to participate you will receive a $200 stipend for your time. All applicants will be notified of our decision by March 12th.

I am trying to set up a math global learning project that will allow middle school classes to complete word problems and share new problems with schools worldwide.  Students will experience problem solving while learning about other cultures through their word problem exchange.  I am hoping to have this ready for the 2004-2005 school year.  There will be no cost to enroll.  Is there anyone who might (no commitment necessary) be interested in this idea?

I do not know whether this can be seen as an attempt to reach something 
like a global learning project,
but let me kindly point out the USolv-IT 'problem solving' tool for 
mathematics.

USolv-IT offers you free access to over 1200 English written math 
problems, coming from 19 years
of Flanders Mathematics Olympiad, over the web.   In the non-English 
interfaces, it gives access to much
more, and not only Mathematics moreover.   Information upon request.

Go to http://www.usolvit.be/
and choose the HIGH SCHOOL button, to reach a page where you can compose 
yourself a test, randomly
composed according to certain criteria.

Beware:  you will need to install a free plugin.  Therefore, take a 
brief look at the general information on
the website.  Have a look also at the Formularium

USolv-IT is open to collaboration.

To everyone who has expressed an interest, here's a bit more information...

This project is just under development.  I have begun creating the website but won't have it up for sometime.  I hope to have it up and ready for classes to enroll by the end of summer.  I wanted to make sure there was an interest and there definitely seems to be.  I'll keep you posted when we're near completion.

the user with the input of complex expressions.

Paradigms on how to use third-party software from within
a preferred GUI are emerging and promise to innovate
the notion of mathematical workspace.

This workshop wants to focus on novel aspects of UI brought
forward by the developments in MKM.
It would like to bring together researchers and practioneers
working with contemporary mathematical user-interfaces, including,
but not limited to:
- mathematical knowledge presentation
- interactivity with mathematical objects

Hello Valeria,
You mean relatively small systems of linear equations with complex numbers?

If so and you have a Java enabled browser, logon to LILA (Lyryx 
Interactive Linear Algebra) at http://lila.lyryx.com with
    Username: TRY
    Password: LILA

Open Chapter 1, Section 2, and then Exploration 3 is Gaussian Elimination.


If you need to solve big systems, you can use MAPLE/Mathematica.
