of the 2011 CRM-Fields-PIMS Prize.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

a premier Canadian award for research achievements in the mathematical sciences.
The prize winner is selected each fall by an independent international committee
with six members, two named by each of the three institutes. The prize winner is
invited to give a lecture at each of the institutes in the following year. The
prize includes a cash award of $10,000.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>

Research Chair in Mathematical Biology, and is the Director of the Centre for

style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Courier New'"> of

mathematical modeling of biological processes, and is an example of the best
interplay of science and mathematics, where ideas from each lead to advances in

techniques in stochastic processes, dynamical systems and partial differential
equations and has led to significant advances, for example, in modeling
territorial pattern formation in wolf populations, predicting population spread
in biological invasions like the </SPAN><st1:place><SPAN
style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Courier New'">West
Nile</SPAN></st1:place><SPAN
style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Courier New'"> virus, and assessing the
effect of habitat fragmentation on species survival.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>
