<html><body style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; -webkit-line-break: after-white-space; ">Dear Colleagues,<br><br>I am pleased to announce that the Banff International Research Station (BIRS) was successful in its effort to renew and secure the support of the governments of Alberta, Canada, the US and Mexico, for the period 2011-2015.<br><br>The combined grants totaling more than $12 million over 5 years will allow BIRS to continue to provide the infrastructure for an environment that optimizes creative interaction and the exchange of ideas, knowledge and methods within a broad program covering the mathematical, statistical and computational sciences, as well as their applications in science, technology and society. The funding includes:<br><br>· $3.68 million from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF).<br>· $3.45 million from the Alberta ministry of Advanced Education and Technology. (AAET)<br>· $3.25 million from the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).<br>· $250,000 from CONACYT, Mexico's National Science and Technology Council.<br>· $400,000 from the "Mathematics of Information Technology and Complex Systems" (MITACS) network, an NCE in support of industrial mathematics.<br>· $400,000 from the University of British Columbia, which hosts the headquarters of BIRS, and which in tandem with the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary, provides crucial support for the Station's administrative management.<br><br>We are extremely grateful to the dozens of scientists who supported BIRS during the joint site visit by the four granting foundations, and to the thousands of BIRS participants who sent us personal and compelling testimonials that helped make the case for BIRS.<br><br><br>Nassif Ghoussoub,<br>Director, Banff International Research Station<br><a href="http://www.birs.ca/">http://www.birs.ca/</a></body></html>
