Working for the Augustana Faculty
Augustana enrolls over 1000 undergraduate students in baccalaureate 
degree programs on a residential campus in the city of Camrose, 90 
kilometers southeast of Edmonton. The Campus is located on Treaty Six 
territory which provided a traveling route and home to the Cree, 
Blackfoot, and Metis, as it did for the Nakoda, Tsuu T’ina and 
Chipewyan, and other Indigenous peoples. Their spiritual and practical 
relationships to the land create a rich heritage and ongoing model for 
our learning and our life as a community.
The Faculty is committed to building on its reputation for academic 
rigour, high-quality teaching in the tradition of the liberal arts and 
sciences, and extensive opportunities for students in the areas of 
community service-learning, undergraduate research and place-based 
learning. Augustana offers a distinctive undergraduate experience 
characterized by an alternative academic calendar (“3-11”) and a common

Position
The Department of Science at the Augustana Faculty of the University of 
Alberta invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in 
Mathematics at the rank of Assistant Professor with an expected starting 
date of July 1, 2023.
The successful candidate will help shape a growing Computing Science and 
Mathematics program and join a collegial environment that provides 
unique opportunities for faculty-student interaction and 
interdisciplinary collaboration. Responsibilities associated with this 
position include: undergraduate teaching; availability to students for 
informal mentoring/advising; the maintenance of an active research 
program; and service to the university and broader community.
Specific to these responsibilities, the successful candidate must 
demonstrate a record of or the potential for effective and engaging 
teaching at the undergraduate level; an ability to teach a wide range of 
undergraduate Mathematics courses; a desire to develop new courses to 
strengthen the program; and an existing research program with clear 
potential for future growth that includes undergraduate students. An 
interest in Open Educational Resources and/or an ability to teach 
courses in Computing Science would be considered assets.
Applicants will have a Ph.D. in Mathematics or related discipline. The 
position is open to all research fields in Mathematics, however, 
preference will be given to applicants whose research is in 
Applied/Numerical/Computational Mathematics and/or Data Science.

Duties
• Teaching a wide variety of mathematics courses at the undergraduate level.
• Contributing to the growth and success of the Computing Science & 
Mathematics program.
• Mentoring and advising undergraduate students.
• Maintaining an active research program.
• Service to the university and broader community.
Minimum Qualifications
• PhD in Mathematics or related discipline.
• Record of or demonstrated potential for effective and engaging 
teaching at the undergraduate level.
• Existing research program with clear potential for future growth.
Preferred Qualifications
• Background in Applied/Numerical/Computational Mathematics and/or Data 
Science.
• Interest or experience in curating and developing Open Educational 
Resources.
• Ability to teach Computing Science courses at the undergraduate level.
