[cmath] A Statement from the CMS Regarding the Situation in Iran | Une déclaration de la SMC concernant la situation en Iran

Media Release:

The Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) wishes to express its solidarity 
with Iranian women and minorities amidst the crisis in Iran. The violent 
crackdowns on civilians and peaceful student protesters are a 
reprehensible violation of human rights and are a symptom of the 
country’s longstanding discriminatory policies and practices. The CMS 
commends the courage of those who are peacefully protesting in support 
of Women’s and Minority Rights.

A statement has been shared by the President of the CMS on the matter:

“/I weep for the students and professors in Iran who have been injured 
and killed. At the same time, I admire the bravery and courage of those 
who are standing against further repression. My friend and colleague 
Javad Mashreghi has written an eloquent letter on their struggle, a 
letter which I fully support./”

Communiqué :

La Société mathématique du Canada (SMC) souhaite exprimer sa solidarité 
avec les femmes et les minorités iraniennes dans le contexte de la crise 
en Iran. Les violentes mesures de répression contre les civils et les 
étudiants-manifestants pacifiques constituent une violation 
répréhensible des droits de la personne et sont un symptôme des 
politiques et pratiques discriminatoires de longue date du pays. La SMC 
salue le courage de ceux qui manifestent pacifiquement en faveur des 
droits des femmes et des minorités.

Une déclaration a été partagée par le Président de la SMC à ce sujet :

/“Je pleure pour les étudiants et les professeurs en Iran qui ont été 
blessés et tués. En même temps, j’admire la bravoure et le courage de 
ceux qui s’opposent à la poursuite de la répression. Mon ami et collègue 
Javad Mashreghi a écrit une lettre éloquente sur leur combat, une lettre 
que je soutiens pleinement.”/
