Good afternoon,

The CMS is holding an online Careers in Mathematics event as part of 
Science Literacy Week. This event will be held on Microsoft Teams, is 
free, and is open to all who wish to attend. Please see the details below:

Mathematics is woven into the fabric of our everyday life, often hiding 
in plain sight. Whether it be in our cell phones, tik tok videos, rubix 
cube solutions, public health policies, climate modelling, or clean 
energy solutions - mathematics is everywhere!

Yet, many of us have trouble picturing ourselves in mathematics and are 
unsure whether a career in mathematics is really for us. This 
uncertainty is especially acute in under-represented and minoritized 
groups, including women and Indigenous people. This event aims to raise 
awareness of the various opportunities for everyone considering a career 
in mathematics. The lecture and panel are open to and intended for 
anyone who is interested in learning more about the types of careers 
that exist for mathematicians. Lecturers and panelists will share their 
experiences with the audience and the floor will be opened to attendees 
for questions at the end.

dans le cadre de la semaine de la culture scientifique. Cet événement se 
tiendra sur Microsoft Teams, est gratuit et ouvert à tous ceux qui

Les mathématiques sont intégrées à la vie quotidienne, mais se cachent 
souvent de notre vue. Qu'il s'agisse de nos téléphones portables, des 
vidéos de tik tok, des solutions de rubix cube, des politiques de santé 
publique, de la modélisation du climat ou des solutions d'énergie 
propre, les mathématiques sont partout !
Pourtant, beaucoup d'entre nous ont du mal à s'imaginer en mathématiques 
et ne savent pas si une carrière dans ce domaine est vraiment faite pour 
eux. Cette incertitude est particulièrement aiguë dans les groupes 
sous-représentés et minorisés, notamment les femmes et les populations 
autochtones. Cet événement a pour but de faire connaître les diverses 
possibilités qui s'offrent à tous ceux qui envisagent une carrière en 
mathématiques. La conférence et le panel sont ouverts à tous ceux qui 
souhaitent en savoir plus sur les types de carrières qui existent pour 
les mathématiciens. Les conférenciers et les panélistes partageront 
leurs expériences avec le public et la parole sera donnée aux 
participants pour des questions à la fin.
