PROJECT MANAGER: MATHEMATICAL MODELLING OF COVID-19
The Fields Institute is seeking a Project Manager for an exciting, international, multi-site COVID-19-related research project.

 

This highly challenging role presents an opportunity to meaningfully contribute to the global effort to combat novel coronavirus and COVID-19. This is a full-time, two-year contract position.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator the Project Manager will be an efficient multi-tasker who can manage, support, and enable/guide a very high-pressure complex, fast-changing, large-scale, multi scientist research task to help combat this new coronavirus.

 

The incumbent will possess outstanding written, verbal, and project management skills; they will be able to communicate and synthesize information, engaging diverse communities and individuals.

This study is funded through the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Canadian 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Rapid Research Funding Opportunity.

 

About the Project

The project brings together Canadian mathematics institutes, national and international co-investigators, collaborators, and team members, to mobilize a network of infectious disease modellers who will assess transmission risk, predict outbreak trajectories, and evaluate the effectiveness of COVID-19 countermeasures.

 

This management task will be demanding, large scale, fast-paced, and may require the incumbent to work remotely, and possibly at other locations, such as the Fields Institute. The role is expected to require variable work hours.

 

Responsibilities

The incumbent is responsible for the management of the operations of the project and assisting in the development, implementation, and oversight of the project objectives, plans, and procedures. The Project Manager is also responsible for ensuring that the project is managed professionally and efficiently, in accordance with Fields Institute and CIHR policies, systems and guidelines, and in accordance with the requirements of the funding sources for the project.

 

Working closely with the Principal Investigator, co-investigators, partners, team members, and Project Executive Committee, the successful candidate will manage and support the project and the research team, as necessary. Responsibilities include:
Deliver the project, instituting project priorities
Monitor timelines
Coordinate approvals
Develop collaborative relationships with teams at Fields and other participating centres
Liaise and coordinate with government and agencies within Canada and internationally.
Provide leadership in all aspects of financial planning, administration, and management with regard of the project, its affiliated research teams, and in its relations with various partners
Other management and administration tasks as required
This role will support Canadian mathematical institutes’ efforts for establishing a continuing national network to study the mathematics of public health and disease modelling.

 

Qualifications
Master’s or Ph.D. degree in a scientific discipline, or equivalent education and experience
Two to three years’ experience, managing complex, multi-participant and multi-site scientific projects, with demonstrated ability to produce excellent results
Experience coordinating complex, mathematical, scientific, or academic endeavours
Understanding of data analysis, collection, modelling, simulation and machine learning an asset
Research institute, academic, hospital, or not-for-profit experience an asset
Experience working in a deadline-driven environment

Information Technology Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other collaboration/meeting software, such as OneDrive, Share Point, as required
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) would be an asset
Willingness to learn other computer programs as needed
