*Canadian Mathematical Society’s Second Inaugural Class of Fellows
Announced *

The Canadian Mathematical Society is pleased to announce the Second
Inaugural Class of Fellows consisting of 11 members from the Canadian
mathematical community. The 2019 Class of Fellows will be recognized at
the CMS Winter Meeting Banquet in Toronto on December 8, 2019.

George A. Elliott (Toronto)

Neal Madras (York)

Monica Nevins (Ottawa)
Bruce L. R. Shawyer (retired)
Cameron L. Stewart (Waterloo)

The Fellows Program was instituted to recognize mathematicians who have
made very significant contributions to the profession and to the
Canadian Mathematical Society. Fellowship recognizes CMS members who
have made excellent contributions to mathematical research, teaching, or
exposition; as well as having distinguished themselves in service to
Canada’s mathematical community.

Induction to the Second Inaugural Class of Fellows was based upon
nominations or a recipient of a CMS prize or award for outstanding
contributions for research, education, exposition and service to the
Society.

deuxième cohorte initiale de /fellows/, composée de 11 membres issus de
la communauté mathématique canadienne. La SMC rendra hommage à ses
/fellows/ 2019 au banquet de la Réunion d’hiver, qui se tiendra à
Toronto le 8 décembre 2019.

Le Programme des /fellows/ vise à récompenser les mathématiciens qui ont
contribué de façon exceptionnelle à la profession et à la Société
mathématique du Canada. Il récompense les membres de la SMC qui ont fait
une contribution exceptionnelle aux mathématiques en recherche, en
enseignement ou en représentation, tout en se distinguant au service de
la communauté mathématique canadienne.

Les /fellows/ de ce deuxième groupe ont été choisis parmi les membres
qui ont été mis en candidature pour un prix de la SMC ou qui ont reçu un
tel prix, pour leur contribution exceptionnelle en recherche, en
enseignement, en représentation ou en services rendus à la SMC.
