Directeur adjoint – Programmes scientifiques au CRM

MONTRÉAL, 29 mai 2014 /CRM/ - Le Centre de recherches mathématiques (CRM) est heureux d’annoncer la nomination de M. Iosif Polterovich au poste de directeur adjoint - Programmes scientifiques. Son mandat débutera le 1er juin 2014. M. Polterovich se joint au Comité de direction du CRM, qui inclut aussi le professeur Luc Vinet (directeur du CRM) et les professeures Galia Dafni (Concordia), directrice adjointe – Publications et Odile Marcotte (UQAM et GERAD), directrice adjointe – Partenariats.

M. Iosif Polterovich est actuellement professeur titulaire au Département de mathématiques et de statistique de l’Université de Montréal, où il détient une Chaire de recherche du Canada en géométrie et théorie spectrale. Il a obtenu une maîtrise de l’Université d'État de Moscou en 1995 et un doctorat de l'Institut Weizmann des sciences en l’an 2000.

Avant de se joindre à l’Université de Montréal en 2002, il a été boursier postdoctoral et scientifique invité au CRM, au MSRI et à l’Institut Max-Planck de mathématiques à Bonn.

M. Polterovich travaille en théorie spectrale géométrique, au carrefour de la géométrie différentielle, de la théorie des équations aux dérivées partielles et de la physique mathématique. Ses contributions à la recherche ont été largement reconnues et il a reçu plusieurs prix, en particulier le prix Coxeter-James (2011), le prix G. de B. Robinson (2008) de la Société mathématique du Canada et le prix André-Aisenstadt décerné par le CRM (2006).

Lors de l’annonce de la nomination de M. Polterovich, M. Luc Vinet, directeur du CRM, a déclaré : « Je suis ravi que Iosif Polterovich, qui est un éminent chercheur et un organisateur très efficace et a un excellent jugement scientifique, ait accepté de se joindre à l’équipe de direction du CRM et de contribuer avec ses multiples talents au développement d’une des plus remarquables organisations canadiennes ».

Le Centre de recherches mathématiques (CRM) est un institut de réputation internationale fondé à Montréal en 1968. Les recherches qu’on y poursuit portent sur l’ensemble des sciences mathématiques ; elles incluent des travaux en mathématiques pures telles la théorie des nombres ou la géométrie, en mathématiques appliquées, en statistique, en physique théorique, en informatique, en biologie mathématique, en sciences économiques, en mathématique industrielles, etc. Ces recherches ont un impact sur des aspects de l’activité humaine aussi divers que la santé publique, la finance, la climatologie, les réseaux sociaux, l’imagerie médicale et les transports. Iosif Polterovich appointed 
Deputy Director - Scientific Programs at the CRM



MONTRÉAL, May 29, 2014 /CRM/ - The Centre de recherches mathématiques (CRM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Iosif Polterovich as Deputy Director - Scientific Programs. His mandate will start on June 1st, 2014. Professor Polterovich will be joining the Management Committee of the CRM, which includes Professor Luc Vinet (CRM Director), Professor Galia Dafni (Concordia), Deputy Director – Publications, and Professor Odile Marcotte (UQAM and GERAD), Deputy Director - Partnerships.

Dr. Polterovich is currently Full Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the Université de Montréal, where he holds a Canada Research Chair in Geometry and Spectral Theory. He received his M.Sc. from Moscow State University in 1995 and obtained a Ph.D. from the Weizmann Institute of Science in 2000.

Prior to joining the Université de Montréal in 2002, he held postdoctoral and visiting positions at the CRM, the MSRI, and the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in Bonn.

Professor Polterovich works in geometric spectral theory, at the interface of differential geometry, partial differential equations and mathematical physics.  His research contributions have been widely recognized; he was awarded the Coxeter-James Prize (2011) and the G. de B. Robinson Award (2008) of the Canadian Mathematical Society, as well as the André Aisenstadt Prize of the CRM (2006).

In announcing the new Deputy Director’s nomination, CRM’s Director Luc Vinet said : “I am delighted that Iosif Polterovich, a distinguished scholar, a person of sound scientific judgment, and a most efficient organizer has agreed to join the CRM’s management team and to contribute with his enormous talents to the further development of one of Canada’s outstanding organizations.”

The Centre de Recherches Mathématiques (CRM), established in Montreal in 1968, is an institute of international reputation. It promotes research in the mathematical sciences, in the broad sense, spanning pure mathematics (for example number theory or geometry), applied mathematics, statistics, theoretical physics, computer science, mathematical biology, economics, industrial mathematics, etc. This research impacts many aspects of human activity in areas as diverse as public health, finance, climatology, social networks, medical imaging, transportation, and so on.
