[cmath] Student Workshops - Intermediate LaTeX and CV Writing - 2013 CMS Winter Meeting

The Student Committee of the Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS Studc) is organizing two student workshops during the 2013 CMS Winter Meeting at the Ottawa Marriott Hotel (December 6 - December 9):

Intermediate LaTeX Tutorial
(Friday, December 6, 11:30-12:30, Rideau Room)

The workshop is designed to help participants improve the quality and readability of their LaTeX documents. Topics will include advanced mathematical formating, the (better) use of equations, environments and packages, referencing and indexing, the mathtools and tikZ packages. Attendees should be familiar with basic LaTeX (for example, be capable of typesetting an assignment, article or small set of notes).

CV Writing Workshop
(Friday, December 6, 13:00-14:30, Rideau Room)

Hands-on workshop consisting of a short presentation, followed by a discussion and peer-review of CVs. Participants are encouraged to submit their CVs ahead of time to help the workshop coordinators zero-in on common problem areas and to get better constructive feedback (do not fret, your anonymity shall be preserved).

Space is limited and pre-registration is required for this event, so register early!

Le comité étudiant de la société mathématique du Canada (Studc SMC) organisera deux ateliers étudiants pendent la réunion d’hiver de la SMC 2013 à l'Hôtel Marriott Ottawa (6 décembre - 9 décembre):

Tutorial de niveau intermédiaire LaTeX
(vendredi, le 6 décembre, 11:30-12:30, Salle Rideau)

Cet atelier vise à donner aux participants les outils nécessaires pour améliorer la qualité et la clarté de leurs documents LaTeX. Les sujets abordés incluent notamment le formatage d'équations et les environnements associés, l'usage de références et d'un index, les extensions mathtools et tikZ. Les participants devraient avoir une exposition antérieure à LaTeX (par exemple, être en mesure de compiler un article, notes de cours ou un devoir.)

Atelier d'écriture de CV
(vendredi, le 6 décembre, 13:00-14:30, Salle Rideau)

Un atelier pratique consistant en une courte présentation, suivie d'une discussion et d'une révision par les pairs de CVs. Les participants sont encouragés à soumettre leur CV en ligne avant l'atelier afin d'aider les coordonnateurs à repérer les erreurs les plus communes et mieux orienter leur travail (ne craignez pas, votre anonymat sera préservée)
