 Summary:

The Unravelers is an original work by Jean-François Dars, Annick Lesne and Anne Papillault. Published in the original French version by Belin in 2008, this book was published in English by A K Peters with the title: The Unravelers, mathematical snapshots. The book, featuring scientists at IHÉS, was a best seller and led to the creation of an exhibition.

Through revealing photographs and accompanying text, this exhibit offers an enchanting and beautiful glimpse into the inner life of the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (IHÉS).

The IHÉS in France is an institute of advanced research in mathematics and theoretical physics with an interest in epistemology and the history of science. It provides exceptionally gifted scientists with a place where they can devote themselves entirely to their research, free of teaching and administrative constraints, and offers them the opportunity to invite visitors with whom they wish to work. The IHÉS also welcomes researchers from all fields connected to mathematics, theoretical physics and the interface of these disciplines with biology.

Immediately preceding the reception, Jean-Pierre Bourguignon (Directeur de recherche, CNRS and Director, IHÉS) will deliver a lecture entitled:
The Work of Misha Gromov, a Truly Original Thinker
3:00 pm ESB 2012
