This is a response to the 2012 federal budget by the Canadian Consortium for Research (see below), as distributed by one of its partners, the Chemical Institute of Canada. I have also written here on how this budget affects support for basic research.

Dear colleague,

The Chemical Institute of Canada has issued a press release (found below) in
response to yesterday’s Federal Budget.

As part of its advocacy program, The Chemical Institute of Canada regularly
lobbies the federal government on behalf of its members on issues of
research funding and regulations. The press release was drafted in
partnership with the Canadian Consortium for Research.

We are reaching out to our members to help us in our efforts to disseminate
this information by forwarding the press release to anyone in your network
with a stake in what this budget will mean for science in Canada.

You can also have your voice be heard by telling us what you think of the
Federal Budget in a letter to the editor of ACCN, the Canadian Chemical
News, sent to magazine at accn.ca. We will publish your letters in the June
issue of the magazine which we will put in the hands of key Members of
Parliament.
