Dear Colleagues,

 

I am pleased to inform you that the restructuring of MITACS is now complete
and that the Mprime Network is fully launched. We created Mprime because we
believe that the future of Canada is the knowledge economy and that the
quantitative sciences are fundamental. The former MITACS-NCE was at the
vanguard of initiating, coordinating, and championing this effort and it is
to the credit of the mathematical sciences community that the programs and
ideas we developed have been adopted by the entire academic community
through the new Mitacs. At the same time, we continue to believe that this
country must continue to keep a sharp focus on ensuring that the
mathematical sciences are an integral part of the broader Canadian
socio-economic landscape and we are mandating the Mprime organization to
take on this challenge.

 

I am honoured to be selected as the inaugural Chair of the Board of Mprime.
On behalf of the Mprime Board of Directors, it is my greatest pleasure to
welcome Dr. Nassif Ghoussoub as the incoming CEO and Scientific Director of
Mprime. Nassif is professor of mathematics at UBC and, as many of you know,
a true leader of the mathematical sciences community. Amongst his many
accomplishments, he is the founder of the Pacific Institute for the
Mathematical Sciences, the Banff International Research Station, and of
MITACS. He is a remarkable visionary and the entire Board is looking forward
to working with him on charting the future direction of Mprime. Please join
me in welcoming Nassif to Mprime.

 

I also want to thank Dr. Arvind Gupta for his tireless efforts over the last
11 years in leading Mitacs. He has raised the profile and support for the
mathematical sciences in Canada. Arvind will continue to serve as the
Scientific Director and CEO of the new Mitacs organization and we at Mprime
wish him at Mitacs every success.

J’ai le plaisir de vous informer que la restructuration de MITACS est
maintenant complétée et que Mprime Network Inc a été pleinement lancé. Nous
avons créé Mprime parce que nous croyons que l’avenir du Canada est dans
l’économie du savoir et que les sciences quantitatives sont fondamentales.
L’ancien MITACS-RCE était à l’avant-garde pour initier, coordonner, et
porter cet effort et c’est tout à l’honneur de la communauté des sciences
mathématiques que les programmes et les idées que nous avons développés ont
été adoptés par la communauté académique tout entière par le biais du
nouveau Mitacs. Cependant, nous continuons à croire que ce pays doit
continuer à mettre une emphase particulière pour s’assurer que les sciences
mathématiques font partie intégrante du paysage socio-économique canadien
plus large et nous avons donné à l’organisation Mprime le mandat de relever
ce défi.

 

Je suis honoré d’être sélectionné en tant que Président inaugural du Conseil
de Mprime. Au nom du Conseil d’administration de Mprime, j’ai le grand
plaisir d’accueillir le Dr. Nassif Ghoussoub en tant que nouveau Chef de la
direction et Directeur scientifique de Mprime. Nassif est professeur de
mathématiques à UBC et, comme plusieurs d’entre vous le savent, un vrai chef
de file de la communauté des sciences mathématiques. Parmi ses  nombreuses
réalisations, il est fondateur du Pacific Institute for the Mathematical
Sciences, la Banff International Research Station, et de MITACS. Il est un
visionnaire remarquable et l’ensemble du Conseil anticipe de travailler avec

Je veux aussi remercier le Dr. Arvind Gupta pour son infatigable ardeur au
cours des 11 dernières années à diriger Mitacs. Il a augmenté la visibilité

en tant que Directeur scientifique et Chef de la direction de la nouvelle
