À toute la communauté mathématique du Canada, 

J'ai le plaisir d'annoncer la nomination de M. François Lalonde, professeur titulaire au Département de mathématiques et de statistique de l’Université de Montréal, en tant que directeur du Centre de recherches mathématiques. Son mandat de quatre ans prendra effet le 1er juin prochain. Il s’agit pour M. Lalonde d’un retour à la barre du Centre après un premier mandat entre 2004 et 2008.

Titulaire de la chaire de recherche du Canada en géométrie différentielle et topologie, François Lalonde s’intéresse à la classification des espaces symplectiques et de leurs structures mathématiques, à leurs transformations et leurs comportements sous déformation (stabilité, rigidité) ainsi qu’à leurs relations avec le domaine quantique. Membre de la Société royale du Canada et Fellow de l’Institut Fields, il jouit d'une grande renommée scientifique sur les scènes nationale et internationale.

Nous lui souhaitons un excellent mandat à la tête du Centre et savons que celui-ci est entre bonnes mains.

To the Canadian mathematical community, 

I am pleased to announce the nomination of François Lalonde, full professor at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of Universite de Montreal, as Director of the Centre de recherches mathematiques. His mandate will begin next June 1st. This will be Mr. Lalonde's second mandate at the helm of CRM since he first served as Director from 2004 to 2008.

Holder of a Canada Research Chair in Differential Geometry and Topology, François Lalonde's research focuses on fundamental problems in symplectic topology, including the classification of symplectic spaces and their mathematical structures, the study of their transformations and behaviour under deformation as well as their connections to the quantum domain. Professor Lalonde is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and of the Fields Institute and his research has earned him a national and international scientific reputation.

We wish him an excellent mandate at the head of the Centre de recherches mathematiques. We know that the CRM is in good hands.
