Scientific Director of Mprime Network Inc.

Mprime Network Inc. has recently been constituted by MITACS Inc. to manage what was formerly the MITACS Networks of Centres of Excellence. As a stand-alone national not-for-profit, Mprime Network Inc. is mandated to harness the power of mathematical tools and methodologies in order to address the inherent complexity of modern industrial and societal problems for the benefit of all Canadians. Mprime is seeking a Scientific Director to provide overall direction and scientific leadership of the network. The network supports a number of activities in the mathematical sciences:

·         High quality research with non-academic industrial partners

·         Summer schools, tutorials and other training activities

·         Workshops, conferences and other networking events

Mprime Network Inc. is expected to fully run the former MITACS-NCE programs starting on April 1, 2011 with the most substantive funding coming through the Canadian government's Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) program. Please note that this programmatic funding is scheduled to begin scaling back as of April 1, 2012 with a termination of funding by March 31, 2014. There is potential for continuing the arrangement of administering the grant through the University of British Columbia. The Scientific Director should hold a position at a Canadian university and be eligible to hold tri-council funding. The successful candidate should possess excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with extensive academic contacts.  In addition, the Scientific Director is expected to have an active research program in the mathematical sciences. The position is available at any time after April 1, 2011 but there is a preference to have a Director in place no later than July 1, 2011.

Responsibilities
·         Provide scientific direction and leadership to Mprime Network Inc.
·         Serve as Chair of the Research Management Committee
·         Report to the Mprime Board of Directors and serve as a voting member of this Board
·         Liaise with stakeholders of Mprime Network Inc. (including senior NCE officials)
·         Promote the objectives and activities of Mprime Network Inc. to the research community
·         Perform other duties as may be required by the Board of Directors

Expectations
·         Ensure that Mprime Network Inc. is meeting its mandate.
·         Maintain strong partnerships and relationships with all stakeholders of Mprime Network Inc.
·         Maintain good working relationships with the mathematical sciences community
·         Maintain open communication with the Board including regular updates on progress or issues
·         Ensure that there is ethical conduct, integrity and a high degree of professionalism in all business activities of Mprime Network Inc.

Réseau Mprime Inc. a récemment été constitué par MITACS Inc. pour gérer ce qui était autrefois le Réseau de Centre d'Excellence MITACS. En tant qu'organisme national autonome à but non lucratif, Réseau Mprime Inc. a pour mandat d'exploiter le potentiel des méthodes et outils mathématiques, afin d'aborder la complexité inhérente aux problèmes industriels et sociaux modernes au profit de tous les Canadiens. Mprime est à la recherche d'un Directeur Scientifique chargé de fournir la direction générale et la direction scientifique du réseau. Le réseau appuie  un certain nombre d'activités dans le domaine des sciences mathématiques :

·         La recherche de qualité avec des partenaires industriels non universitaires

·         Écoles d'été, tutoriels et autres activités de formation

·         Ateliers, conférences et autres activités de réseautage

Mprime Network Inc. devrait pleinement prendre en charge les anciens programmes du RCE-MITACS à partir du 1 avril 2011, dont le financement le plus substantiel provient des Réseaux de Centre d'Excellence (RCE) du gouvernement Canadien. Veuillez noter qu'il est prévu que ce financement connaisse une réduction à partir du 1eravril 2012 avec la fin du financement prévue pour le 31 mars 2014. Il existe une possibilité de pouvoir continuer à disposer de cette subvention avec l'Université de la Colombie-Britannique. Le directeur scientifique doit occuper un poste dans une université canadienne et être admissible à un financement des trois conseils. Pour être retenu, le candidat doit posséder un excellent leadership et avoir de bonnes relations interpersonnelles ainsi que de nombreux contacts universitaires. En outre, le directeur scientifique devrait avoir un programme actif de recherche dans les sciences mathématiques. Le poste est disponible à tout moment à partir du 1eravril 2011, mais nous souhaiterions avoir un Directeur en place au plus tard le 1erjuillet 2011.

Responsabilités

·         Prendre en charge la direction scientifique de Réseau Mprime Inc.

·         Servir en tant que Président du Comité de Gestion de la Recherche

·         Reporter au Conseil d'Administration de  Mprime et servir en tant que membre votant de cette Commission

·         Assurer la liaison avec les partenaires de Réseau Mprime Inc. (y compris les fonctionnaires senior des RCE)

·         Promouvoir les objectifs et activités de Réseau Mprime Inc. auprès de la communauté de recherche

·         S'acquitter d'autres tâches pouvant être requises par le Comité de Direction

Attentes

·         Veiller à ce que Réseau Mprime Inc. s'acquitte de son mandat

·         Maintenir des partenariats solides et des relations avec tous les partenaires de Réseau MPrime Inc.

·         Entretenir de bonnes relations de travail avec la communauté des sciences mathématiques

·         Maintenir une communication ouverte avec le Conseil, y compris fournir des mises à jour régulières sur les progrès ou les problèmes

·         S'assurer d'un comportement éthique, d'une bonne intégrité et d'un haut degré de professionnalisme dans toutes les activités commerciales de Réseau Mprime Inc.
