[cmath] On cmath-l and the ongoing debate on the new NSERC system

Dear colleagues,

I --and many of you-- have by now used the CMath distribution list for
over 15 years. We have used it as a forum about issues related to our
academic lives, especially the mathematical sciences. Using the CMath
distribution list, we have together built consensus, developed new
national and international institutions, engaged NSERC and government,
and above all kept the flow of relevant information flowing through
all departments in Canada (large and small) and elsewhere.

There are two reasons why I am bringing up this matter:

1. While dozens of you appreciated my distribution of the eulogy of
Richard Kane, and the article responding to Gwen Morgan, one young
postdoc in the Institute of Quantum Computing complained about it as
"spam".

2. One colleague who has recently joined the forum asked whether it
was dedicated solely to the advertisement of available positions.

I therefore encourage the CMS to inform new members who are joining
the information network of the original raison d'etre of this forum.

This said, I invite you to take a look and contribute to

There are 2 posts related to NSERC's discovery grant program, which
were discussed during the debate that was held earlier this week
during the CMS meeting in Vancouver.

This will be my last email pointing to the blog. If interested, you
can either bookmark it or just subscribe to it. You will then get
automatic notifications about new entries.

All the best,

Nassif
