ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, MATHEMATICS
Cape Breton University (CBU) is located on Cape Breton Island, Nova
Scotia's tourism centrepiece and home to rich Celtic, Mi'kmaq, and Acadian
culture. CBU has a reputation for small class sizes, strong community
involvement, and generous internal support for faculty research. More

CBU invites applications for a nine-month limited term appointment in
Mathematics at the rank of Assistant Professor commencing August 1, 2009,
subject to budgetary approval. The union affiliation of this position is
with the Cape Breton University Faculty Association.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Mathematics, with preference being given to
those with research and teaching experience in such areas as real analysis,
complex analysis and set theory. The teaching load may include some service
courses (including introductory statistics and calculus).
Applicants are expected to engage in course updating and development, and
to demonstrate potential and commitment with regard to undergraduate
teaching, research/creative/scholarly activities and service to Cape
Breton University, community and profession.
Qualified candidates should send a letter of application quoting the reference
number (MATH0904), with an up-to-date curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching
effectiveness, a sample publication and three current letters of reference
(sent directly to CBU) to the Human Resources Department. Review of
applications will commence May 25, 2009. The position will remain open until it
