Le Département de mathématiques et de statistique de l'Université Laval 
sollicite des candidatures pour un poste de carrière en mathématiques qui 
sera disponible le premier septembre 2009.

Nous cherchons un candidat qui pourra, à très court terme, venir renforcer 
l'équipe pédagogique responsable de nos cours destinés à la clientèle du 
génie et des sciences appliquées. En conséquence, la composante 
enseignement de ce poste est très importante.

Cette annonce s'adresse donc aux candidats qui détiennent, ou sont sur le 
point de détenir, un PhD en mathématiques et qui pourront remplir les 
exigences suivantes.

1) Le candidat devra faire la preuve de capacités pédagogiques 
exceptionnelles aussi bien pour l'enseignement à des grands groupes 
d'étudiants inscrits dans les programmes de génie que pour l'enseignement 
spécialisé en mathématiques.  (Les candidats non francophones devront 
s'engager à acquérir une bonne maîtrise du français en un court laps de 
temps.)

2) Le candidat devra proposer un programme de recherche autonome pour 
lequel il pourra rapidement obtenir un financement adéquat. Le domaine de 
recherche privilégié est celui de l'algèbre. L'Université Laval applique 
un programme d'accès à l'égalité qui consacre la moitié des postes vacants 
à l'engagement des femmes. Conformément aux exigences prescrites en 
matière d'immigration au Canada, la priorité sera accordée aux citoyens 
canadiens et aux résidents permanents du Canada. Le salaire est déterminé 
par la convention collective suivant l'ancienneté et le rang universitaire 
accordés.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics invites applications for a 
tenure-track position. The appointment will normally, but not strictly, be 
at the rank of Assistant Professor. The anticipated starting date is 
September 1, 2009.

The teaching component of this position is extremely important as the 
successful candidate is expected to rapidly join the pedagogical team in 
charge of the many service courses offered to students registered in the 
various engineering and applied science programs of the Faculty.

This invitation extends to candidates holding a PhD in mathematics or to 
those near completion.

Responsabilities and selection criteria

1) The candidate should demonstrate exceptional pedagogical abilities and 
a strong interest for teaching service courses to large groups of 
engineering students, as well as teaching specialized courses to 
mathematics students. (Université Laval is a French-speaking university, 
thus the non-francophone candidates should be willing to acquire fluency 
in French in a short period.)

2) The candidate should be able to initiate an autonomous research program 
for which he or she will be able to obtain NSERC funding. Preference will 
be given to candidates in the field of algebra. All candidates fulfilling 
the above criteria are encouraged to apply. However, it should be noted 
that, according to canadian immigration requirements, Canadians and 
permanent residents must be given priority. The salary and rank will be 
determined in accordance to the collective agreement. According to its 
equal opportunity program, Université Laval reserves half the vacant 
positions for the appointment of women.

few recent publications and a summary, no longer than two pages, 
describing the research program. Applicants should also ask three referees

sollicit the referees themselves.
