Keith John Worsley (1951--2009)

Professor Keith Worsley died on 27 February 2009 in Chicago:
he was 57. In November 2008 he was diagnosed with cancer.
At the time of his death, Keith was Professor of Statistics
at the University of Chicago and James McGill Professor of
Mathematics and Statistics at McGill University. He was regular
member of CRM and member of the CRM PhysNum laboratory.
Keith Worsley  was a world leader in research on the geometry of
random images in astrophysics and brain mapping. He was recognized
with the Gold Medal of the Statistical Society of Canada (2004),
Fellowship of the Royal Society of Canada (2003), and Honorary
Fellowship of the Royal Society of New Zealand (2008).

Le professeur Keith Worsley est décédé le 27 février 2009 à
Chicago ; il avait 57 ans. Il se savait atteint d'un cancer
depuis novembre 2008. À son décès, Keith était simultanément
professeur de statistique à l'Université de Chicago et
professeur James McGill au Département de mathématiques et
de statistique de l'Université McGill. Il était membre régulier du  
CRM et
membre du laboratoire PhysNum du CRM. Keith Worsley était un des
chercheurs les plus réputés au monde dans le domaine de
l'imagerie cérébrale et de la géométrie des images
aléatoires en astrophysique. Ses travaux lui avaient valu
la Médaille d'or de la Société statistique du Canada (2004) ;
il était membre de la Société royale du Canada (2003) et
membre honoraire de la Société royale de Nouvelle-Zélande
(2008).
