ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, MATHEMATICS

University (CBU) is located on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia's tourism 
centrepiece and home to rich Celtic, Mi'kmaq, and Acadian culture. CBU has 
a reputation for small class sizes, strong community involvement, and 
strong internal support for faculty research.

CBU invites applications for a tenure-track position in Mathematics at the 
rank of Assistant Professor to commence July 2009, subject to budget 
approval.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Mathematics. Related postdoctoral research 
and teaching experience is desirable. The successful candidate will 
contribute to teaching upper level undergraduate courses in such areas as 
real analysis, complex analysis and set theory. The research 
specialization should be relevant to at least one of these areas. The 
teaching load may include some service courses (including elementary 
financial mathematics and fundamentals of Mathematics).

The successful applicant will be expected to establish a vigorous 
externally funded research program and teach Mathematics at the 
undergraduate level. Applicants are expected to engage in course updating 
and development, and to demonstrate potential and commitment with regard 
to undergraduate teaching, research/creative/scholarly activities and 
service to Cape Breton University, community and profession.

The union affiliation of this position is with the Cape Breton University 
Faculty Association.
