The Department of Mathematics at the University of Manitoba invites
applications for one three-year term position at the Assistant Professor
level, commencing July 1, 2008, or as soon as possible thereafter. Minimum
qualifications are a Ph.D. in mathematics, evidence of strong research
potential, and a strong commitment to teaching at the post-secondary
level. The appointment is expected to be in some area of Algebra or
Topology. Exceptional candidates in related areas will also be considered.
Duties will include research, teaching and supervision of undergraduate
and graduate students, as well as service-related activities.
The Department of Mathematics has 29 full and part-time tenured or tenure
track professors and 3 instructors, and also employs a number of sessional
lecturers. The Department offers a full range of undergraduate, M.Sc., and
Ph.D. programs with the opportunity to specialize in a wide range of areas
of pure and applied mathematics. The University is home to the Institute
for Industrial Mathematical Sciences and the Canadian Mathematical Society
Publications Office.
The University of Manitoba is a comprehensive university with
undergraduate and graduate programs in a wide variety of disciplines, and
a full range of professional faculties with active research and graduate
education programs including Engineering and Medicine. There are
approximately 23,000 undergraduate students and 3,200 graduate students at
the University.
Winnipeg (www.city.winnipeg.mb.ca) is a strongly multi-cultural city of
about 710,000 people. The city supports a wide range of cultural
activities including symphony, dance, opera and theatre; numerous large
cultural festivals, as well as professional and amateur sports. The region
provides easy access to and ample opportunities for outdoor recreational
activities.
