Two Tier II Canada Research Chairs in Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics at Simon Fraser University invites
applications for Tier II Canada Research Chairs in Mathematics. The Canada
Research Chair Program is supported by the Government of Canada and was
established to enable Canadian universities to achieve the highest levels
of research excellence. Information about the program may be found at
http://www.chairs.gc.ca. It is anticipated that the successful candidates
would take up the position in September, 2008 or January 2009.
Tier II Canada Research Chairs will be appointed at the Assistant or
Associate Professor level and will ordinarily be less than 10 years from
completion of the Ph. D. The initial appointment is for five years, with
the possibility of renewal for a second five-year term.
Position 1
The Department welcomes applicants with outstanding research programs
consistent with the strategic research plan of Simon Fraser University
(www.sfu.ca/vpresearch/SRP.html). While applications from researchers in
all areas of mathematics are encouraged, we seek an individual
specializing in mathematics with industrial connections. The Chairholder
will provide scientific leadership within the Department of Mathematics
and in conjunction with the MITACS Network.
Position 2
The Department welcomes applicants with outstanding research programs
consistent with the strategic research plan of Simon Fraser University
(www.sfu.ca/vpresearch/SRP.html). Applications from researchers in all

For both positions, researchers that can contribute to or extend existing
departmental strengths are of particular interest. Please see our website
(www.math.sfu.ca) for current information on research fields. The primary
criterion for selection will be the excellence of the candidates.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however Canadians and
permanent residents will be given priority. Simon Fraser University is
committed to an equity employment program that includes special measures
to achieve diversity among its faculty and staff. We therefore
particularly encourage applications from all qualified applicants,
including women, First Nations people, persons with disabilities, and
members of visible minorities. Applications, including a statement of
interest, a curriculum vitae, and descriptive statements about research
plans and teaching activities should be sent by Dec. 15, 2007 to
