JOB OPPORTUNITY

The Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) is a non-profit medical 
mutual defence organization with more than 100 years of national 
experience related to virtually every medico-legal issue. About 95 per 
cent of the doctors licensed to practise in Canada are CMPA members.

The CMPA protects the professional integrity of doctors by providing 
services including legal defence, indemnification, risk management, 
educational programs and general advice. In addition, we promote and 
support medico-legal and practical measures likely to improve the practice 
of medicine.

JOB TITLE:		Senior Statistical Data Analyst

TERMS:			Regular, Full-time Position

SALARY RANGE:		$51,680 to $77,520 with a control point of $64,600

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Senior Statistician, the Statistical Data Analyst 
analyses medical-legal data and provides regular statistical support as 
requested by various departments. The incumbent may perform one or more of 
the following functions:

- Write computer programs to query and extract data from internal and
   external data sources
- Assess the quality of data by writing programs and/or reviewing data
   quality indicators and reports
- Write pre-processing programs to manipulate data using  SAS or other
   languages in order to prepare the data for modelling
- Generate and execute automated processes and web-based tools that result
   in the production of descriptive statistics and graphs for all standard
   reports (e.g. Liability and Risk studies, Review of Activities reports
   and, Year-End Report)
- Perform ad hoc requests by working with Medical Analysts, Medical
   Analyst Researcher, Content Developers and other RMS and CMPA clients
   to prepare specifications, extract data, and review results
- Act as a back-up to the statisticians in their daily activities
- Provide assistance in the development of Business Decision Support Tools
- Conduct quality assurance activities for external data sources
- Work closely with other Data Analysts and Statisticians  to define the
   content of analytical files, review data quality issues and recommend
   methods of improvement
- Other related duties and special assignments as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor's Degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, actuarial
   science, or other Statistical- related field
- A minimum of 6 years related working experience
- In-depth knowledge of SAS programming language, with advanced SAS
   programming skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience of Relational Database and SQL (preferably Oracle SQL)
- Highly developed analytical skills
- Familiarity with statistical concepts (populations, samples, modelling
   and test data sets)
- Knowledge of research/modelling methodology,  i.e. understand project
   steps; from raw data, through transformation, to model construction and
   assessment
- Experience constructing graphs to explore data (such as histograms,
   scatter plots)
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent team skills
- Ability to work independently

Desirable
- Knowledge of outlier and influential observation detection, examination
   and handling
- Knowledge of Health care data
- Knowledge of Visual Basic or VBA
- Knowledge of data warehouse and BI
