ACADEMIC CHAIR - MATH SCIENCES

Centre for Academic Learner Services

SAIT Polytechnic - calgary, alberta

 

The Centre for Academic Learner Services requires an Academic Chair to
be an academic leader for the Math Sciences service instruction area.
This Academic Chair position will provide academic management and
leadership for the Math Sciences subject area.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Operational Accountabilities: 

*	Ensure a quality learning environment exists in the Math Science
courses


*         Lead performance management and coaching of faculty 


*         Recommend and participate in opportunities for area growth 


*         Resource management and scheduling to ensure an effective
learning environment that is fiscally efficient 


*         Establish and maintain contacts with SAIT programs and
industry 


*         Use project management for program operation


*         Set and meet budget objectives associated with area operation 


*         Foster the development of a strong Math Sciences faculty team


*         Engage faculty in professional development activities


*         Participate in cross campus committees as required


*         Mentor faculty and encourage teaching excellence in the
classroom


*         Leading the area through contact with SAIT programs


*         Counsel students, address student and faculty issues


*         Contribute to SAIT's Academic Plan, mission, vision and
departmental goals


*         Work with other SAIT personnel to serve the needs of academic
departments


*	Ensure academic integrity of continuing education programs
*	Ensure that facilities are industry relevant
*	Work with the curriculum coordinator on curriculum projects
*	Lead the development of strategic planning in the area that
addresses quality as per the KPI reports (key performance indicators)

 

Leadership Accountabilities:

*	Promoting a SAIT first environment
*	Promoting a team environment 
*	Empowering staff and faculty to feel passionate about the future
of SAIT, CALS, and the Math Sciences area
*	Supporting SAIT and the department in the achievement of the
goals and vision
*	Create an excellent learning environment for students
*	Being accessible to students in a responsive learning
environment
*	Contribute to the strategic development of SAIT, CALS, and the
Math Sciences area
*	Display respect for others through actions
*	Support and recognize the achievement of students, staff and
faculty
*	Lead faculty in the development of their teaching skills

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

*         Minimum of a Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) in
engineering, mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, education, or
equivalent

*         Progressive experience in industry

*         Project management experience 

*         Experience as a manager of people

*         Previous academic experience would be an asset
