DEAN, FACULTY OF SCIENCE
MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY

Based in St. John's, a safe, friendly, thriving city with great historic
charm, Memorial University plays a key role in the future prosperity of
the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The University's new strategic
plan projects overall enrolment to move from 17,500 to 20,500 (of which
3,900 will be graduate students from the present 2,400) within 5 years.

Under the outgoing Dean, the Faculty of Science has become a powerhouse
with eight talented departmental chairs, several Canada Research Chairs,
the largest budget in the University, more than a third of the
University's total external research funding, and there are plans for a
new Sciences Research Building. Increasing emphasis on graduate studies,
research, and interdisciplinary teaching and scholarship indicates that
planning for additional resources, new infrastructure and associated
funding will need to be marshaled throughout the Faculty, which, because
of significant renewal, is poised for further development.

The Dean will bring intellectual leadership and organizational creativity
to the role, with a vision that encompasses the advantages and potential
of the Faculty's breadth and provides a balanced commitment to teaching
and research. University administrative experience and the ability to
hold a tenured position are required.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and
permanent residents will be given priority. Memorial University is an
equal opportunity employer, committed to the principle of equity in
employment, and encourages applications from qualified women and men,
visible minorities, Aboriginal peoples and persons with disabilities.
