[cmath] Tenure-Track Position - University of Manitoba, Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Manitoba invites
applications for one tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor
level, commencing July 1, 2006, or as soon as possible thereafter. This
position is subject to final budgetary approval. Minimum qualifications
are a Ph.D. in mathematics, evidence of strong research potential, and a
strong commitment to teaching at the post-secondary level. The appointment
is expected to be in an area of Pure Mathematics, but exceptional
candidates in other areas will also be considered. Duties will include
research, teaching and supervision of undergraduate and graduate students,
as well as service-related activities.

The Department of Mathematics has 30 tenured or tenure-track professors
and 2 continuing Instructors, together with several sessional lecturers,
and offers a full range of undergraduate, M.Sc., and Ph.D. programs in
pure and applied areas. The University of Manitoba is home to the
Institute of Industrial Mathematical Sciences, which actively promotes
links between faculty members and industry. The Department of Mathematics
is also home to the technical editing facilities of the Canadian
Mathematical Society.

Winnipeg (www.city.winnipeg.mb.ca) is a city of about 650,000 that has a
great deal to offer, both culturally and recreationally. A symphony
orchestra, ballet company, numerous choral groups, opera and several
professional theatre companies provide a cultural milieu unusual for a
city of this size. In addition, the city is home to several professional
sports teams. There are many opportunities nearby for a variety of outdoor
activities in all seasons.  The Winnipeg housing market is one of the most
favourable in Canada for the home buyer.
