I would like to bring to your attention a few points about the ICMI Studies.
--- STUDY 16 (Challenging Mathematics in and beyond the Classroom)
The deadline for submission of contributions to
this Study is TODAY, AUGUST 31!!! However should
you know of people or groups in your environment
that may be potential contributors to this Study
but have not yet taken action, please urge them
to immediately enter into contact with the
co-chairs of the Study, Ed Barbeau
(barbeau at math.toronto.edu) and Peter Taylor
(pjt at olympiad.org) so to examine with them the
possibility of a submission. The invitations to
the Study conference will be issued no later than
January 31, 2006, with the conference taking
place in Trondheim, Norway, from June 27 to July
3, 2006.

--- STUDY 17 (Digital Technologies and
Mathematics Teaching and Learning: Rethinking the
Terrain)
The Discussion Document for this Study has
recently been completed and is now available at
http://www.math.msu.edu/~nathsinc/ICMI/
Please note that the deadline for receiving
proposals of contributions is JANUARY 15, 2006.
Invitations to the Study conference will be
issued by mid-May 2006, the conference taking
place at the Hanoi Institute of Technology,
Vietnam, on December 3-8, 2006.
Further information can be obtained from the
Study 17 co-chairs, Celia Hoyles
(c.hoyles at ioe.ac.uk) and Jean-Baptiste Lagrange
(jb.lagrange at reims.iufm.fr).
--- STUDY 18 (Statistics Education in School
Mathematics: Challenges for Teaching and Teacher
Education)
ICMI is pleased to announce its recent decision
of organizing, together with the International
Association for Statistical Education (IASE), a
joint Study on the theme "Statistics Education in
School Mathematics: Challenges for Teaching and
Teacher Education". Carmen Batanero
(batanero at ugr.es) will act as chair of the
International Programme Committee, whose
composition will be announced soon.
The current plans are to have the Discussion
Document available around September 2006. The
Study Conference will take place in July 2008 in
Monterrey, México, as a satellite conference to
ICME-11.
I take this opportunity to inform you that issue
No. 55 (December 2004) of the ICMI Bulletin has
recently been posted as a pdf file on the ICMI
website http://www.mathunion.org/ICMI/
