          Mathematics or Statistics Instructor
     Full-time, permanent faculty, Chilliwack campus

The University College of the Fraser Valley invites applications for a
full-time, permanent faculty position in mathematics or statistics,
with the anticipated start date of August 1, 2005, subject to
funding. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers a full
range of undergraduate mathematics and statistics courses, including
high school-to-university transition courses, and offers majors and
minors in mathematics and minors in statistics as part of bachelors
degrees in Science or Arts.

The successful candidate will have a Master's degree in mathematics or
statistics or mathematics education (a Ph.D. is preferred), an
outstanding ability to teach and communicate effectively to
undergraduates at all levels, a commitment to building the
department's degree-level offerings, and a demonstrated on-going
interest in research and other scholarly activities. Examples of
innovative approaches to teaching and to course and program design are
an asset. Exceptional candidates in any area will be considered but
preference may be given to specialists in mathematics education.

UCFV mathematics or statistics instructors teach six courses each
year. Small classes and a pleasant, collegial environment are
hallmarks of teaching at UCFV. Recognising that scholarship is
integral to educational excellence, UCFV faculty maintain active
research programs. The University College supports scholarship through
course releases for research, a sabbatical every seven years, and
twenty days of professional development time each spring prior to the
start of the annual faculty vacation period of forty working days
(eight calendar weeks). The current salary range for UCFV faculty is
$48,666 to $73,257 annually, with faculty moving up one level on the
ten-step scale annually. Qualifications and experience are both
considered in determining the initial placement on the scale.

The University College of the Fraser Valley has provided innovative
