The University College of the Fraser Valley invites applications for a
full-time, permanent faculty position in Mathematics, with the
anticipated start date August 1, 2004. The Department of Mathematics
and Statistics offers a full range of undergraduate mathematics and
statistics courses, including high school-to-university transition
courses, and offers major and minor degrees in mathematics.
The successful candidate will have a Masters degree in Mathematics -
a PhD is preferred, an outstanding ability to teach and communicate
effectively to undergraduates at all levels, have a commitment to
building the departments degree level of offerings, and a
demonstrated, on-going interest in research and other scholarly
activities. Examples of innovative approaches to teaching and to
course and program design are an asset. Exceptional candidates in any
area will be considered. Preference may be given to specialists in
applied mathematics or mathematics education.
UCFV mathematics instructors teach six courses each year. Small class
sizes, and a pleasant, collegial environment are hallmarks of teaching
at UCFV. Recognising that scholarship is integral to educational
excellence, UCFV faculty maintain active research programs. The
University College supports scholarship through course releases for
research, a sabbatical every seven years, and twenty days of
professional development time each spring prior to the start of the
annual forty working days (eight calendar weeks) faculty vacation
period. The current salary range for UCFV faculty is $48,000 to
$73,000, with faculty moving up one level on the ten step scale
annually. Both qualifications and experience are considered in
arriving at the initial placement on the scale.
The University College of the Fraser Valley has provided innovative

undergraduate degree-granting institution currently enrolling over
7000 students, the focus at the University College is on teaching
excellence. Located in the scenic Fraser Valley of British Columbia,
UCFV offers easy access to mountain, lake and ocean recreation, a
moderate climate and an approximate one-hour drive to Vancouver. The
