The Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences is in the process
of renewing appointments to its Board of Directors.

The five founding universities have appointed representatives as follows:

* Dr. Bruce P. Clayman, Vice-President, Research, Simon Fraser University
* Dr. Gary Kachanoski, Vice-President Research, University of Alberta
* Dr. Donald E. Brooks, Associate Vice-President Research, University of British Columbia
* Dr. Michael Boorman, Dean of Science, University of Calgary (acting chair)
* Dr. Martin Taylor, Vice-President Research, University of Victoria

In accordance with the member universities' agreement about PIMS, the
university representatives, together with the PIMS director,
have invited three mathematical scientists from the PIMS community
to join the renewed Board of Directors. These people are:

* Dr. Mark Lewis, Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences, University of Alberta
* Dr. Edwin A. Perkins, Department of Mathematics, University of British Columbia
* Dr. Hugh C. Williams, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Calgary

We are now looking for up to five members from industry to complete the Board.

I would like to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to
the new and continuing members of the PIMS Board, and to thank the
outgoing Board membership for their support and faithful service
to the mathematical sciences community in Western Canada.
