Assistant Professor, Fluid Dynamics

The Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences, at the University
of Alberta, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in
the general areas of fluid dynamics, elasticity and continuum mechanics.
Under exceptional circumstances, appointments at a higher level would be
considered. We seek an individual who will complement the Department's
existing expertise in thin film fluid dynamics, turbulence, wave theory,
stratified fluids, hydrodynamic stability, and physical oceanography. The
successful candidate will hold a PhD degree. S/he must have demonstrated
accomplishments and outstanding promise in research, and a strong
commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching. Candidates are also
expected to possess excellent communication skills and leadership
potential.

Alberta is one of the leading Mathematics Departments in Canada and has
strong connections with other mathematical institutes, such as the Pacific
Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS), Mathematics of Information
Technology and Complex Systems (MITACS), and the Banff International
Research Station (BIRS). For more information about the Department, please
visit our website at www.math.ualberta.ca.

Applicants should submit their curriculum vitae, a research statement, a
teaching profile outlining experience and/or interests, and at least three
confidential letters of reference. Consideration of applications will
begin in February 2009; however, the competition will remain open until a
suitable candidate is found. Early applications are encouraged.

Interested applicants may apply to:
